Nettie Simpson was the 12th of 14 children born in Bond, Mississippi to Harley and Sarrah Black. She was raised on a farm and, after finishing high school, went to live with her sister in Joplin, Missouri.
Like Dad, Mom was giving, loving and caring. She was steadfast and protective. She was a stay at home mom, a great cook and she knew her way around a sewing machine. She made clothes for all her kids and herself. I must say we were all pretty hip looking in our clothes during the '60s and '70s.
After dad retired, they both enjoyed camping and square dancing and belonged to several clubs of both. Mom helped dad with his bee business. They had many hilarious stories with their encounters with those bees. Mom also enjoyed gardening and quilting.
John and Nettie celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in March with family.
John and Nettie are survived by 4 children: Cynthia (Grob), Karen (Engle), John Simpson, and June (Lee); five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
