Rae Utley Obituary

Phyllis Rae (Stormer) Utley of Yuba City, CA, was born on March 25, 1933, in Woodland, and passed away on January 25, 2018, in Sutter at the home of her daughter and son in law. Rae passed away at the age of 84, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was raised in Willows where she met her husband, Bill. In 1961, they moved to Yuba City where they raised their family. Rae is the mother of three; Bill Utley (Lucy), Tracey Fukui, and Laura Williams (Jeff); the grandmother of eight; Jamie (Nick), Aaron (Brandi), Allison (Erik), Sara, Justin (Erica), Austin, Christopher (Hillary), and Ariane; and great-grandmother of nine. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Bill, their grandson, Justin, and her sister, DeMaris.

Rae was a devoted and loyal wife, a loving and generous mother and grandmother, a true and steadfast friend, and a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher. After graduating from Chico State University, she taught at Franklin Elementary School for 20 years, 5th grade being her favorite. She had a teacher's heart and strove to instill the joy of learning in any "student" that came her way. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church where she participated in their Mother Hubbard's Cupboard food mission. She enjoyed volunteering as a pink lady for Fremont Hospital and for the You Can Bike program. She loved to read and garden, and play Bridge with her longtime friends. She will be missed every day by those who were fortunate enough to know her.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Yuba City on February 20, 2018, at noon. In her memory, a contribution may be made to a .
