Ramon Forrest (Ray) Paustian Obituary

Ramon (Ray) Forrest Paustian, 81, of Marysville, passed away peacefully in his home on March 18, 2016.

Ramon was born on September 26, 1934 in Bloomfield, Nebraska where he spent his early years working and causing mischief on the family farm. At 17 years old, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was promptly serving our country as a medic in the Korean War. He spent more than a year overseas and took great pride in serving our country. After returning home from war, Ray continued his military service. His service took him from California, New Mexico, Alaska, and then finally ending his 20 years military career at Travis Air force Base in California. Prior to leaving for the War, Ray married the love of his life Nancy Claire Paustian and started a family. Ray and the family loved to tell stories of their military travels and the good times that ensued. While in Alaska, Ray played goalie for the Air Force Base Hockey team. After Ray and his family settled in Marysville, he went to work as a mechanic for PG&E where he worked until his retirement.

Ray's personality was very outgoing and he was always eager to make a conversation with a stranger. He enjoyed family gatherings, his great friends Bill and Maureen Griffith of Dayton, Nevada, a cup of coffee with his kids, travel, civil war reenactments and history, golf, photography, WWE Wrestling, NASCAR, antique tractors, old western movies, talking cars and the occasional beer with his Hall St. friends who referred to him as "Grampa". Ray's family and friends were really his passion and delight, and he was a treasured contribution to all of those who were blessed enough to have spent time with him.

Ray is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Paustian, and his children, Dan Paustian and Helen Gould.

Ray is survived by his children, Steve Paustian (Bonae), Mike Paustian (Raylene), Mona Moses (Kevin), and Jim Paustian (Yvonne) and sister Nadine Shawl. He has 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way) and his beloved dog Lilly.

A celebration of life and full military graveside service will be held at Sierra View Mortuary & Memorial Park, Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 4:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Lipp & Sullivan Funeral Home. The celebration of life will continue after the service at the home of Mike and Raylene Paustian in Yuba City.
