Reta Mae Overton Obituary

Reta Overton, 80, of Yuba City, California passed away on January 11, 2017 at her home with her loving husband by her side after a long illness.

She was born on February 15, 1936 in Nash, Oklahoma to Earl and Lillian Overton. She and James Ronald Overton were married on March 13, 1955.

Reta is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Jim, her adoring sons; David Eugene Overton (Terri) of Yuba City, Raymond Craig Overton (Michelle) of Yuba City, her loving brothers; Earl Lee Overton (Ilus) of Enid, Oklahoma, Merlin Overton (Linda) of Alva, Oklahoma, and her sister Lavay Moore (Robert) of Nash, Oklahoma. Her cherished grandchildren are Travis, Shane, Tiffany, Craig, and twin great granddaughters.

After graduating from Nash High School in 1954 Reta went on to receive her degree in court recorder/legal secretary from Enid Business College. Shortly thereafter, she met and married Sgt. James Ronald Overton of the United States Air Force.

After the birth of her two sons the family spent many years traveling the world. Some of Reta's fondest memories as a wife and mother came from the years the family spent living in Germany while her husband was stationed at Hahn Air Base. She and her husband endured their only separation in 1968-1969 while he was in Vietnam.

Upon Jim's retirement from the Air Force the family settled in the Yuba City area. Reta continued to enjoy traveling with her family visiting almost every state. She enjoyed her many years of work as a bookkeeper for several local businesses; her family's repair shop, and real estate businesses.

Nothing made Reta happier than spending time with her family. Her dinners were her way of gathering the family and keeping current on each one of our lives.

Her grandchildren were a source of great pride and joy; never missing one of their school functions, sporting activities, or other important life events. Reta was always available to make you the most important person in her life. We will all dearly miss her.

She gave to numerous charities, especially The Salvation Army and Disabled American Veterans. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a .

A celebration of life will be held at Ullrey's Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 2:00 pm.
