Richard Arthur Bastiaans Obituary

Richard Arthur Bastiaans, 88, of Olivehurst, CA, passed away at home on November 26, 2017. He was born on September 18, 1929 in Indonesia.

He was a retired head mechanic at Delmonte. Before that, he worked as an Auto Mechanic in Paradise, CA, and Sankey Brothers in Colusa, CA. He was a resident of the Yuba-Sutter area for 57 years who immigrated from Holland in 1960. He was in the Dutch Military, and he was a P.O.W. during Japanese occupation during WWII in Dutch East Indies (Indonesia).

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law; Ingrid and Richard Neves, son and daughter-in-law; Rico and Cheri Bastiaans, of Olivehurst, CA, son, Jimmy Bastiaans, of Arkansas, daughter, Saskia Collins, of Oklahoma, daughter and son-in-law; Sandy and David, of Arizona, daughter and son-in-law; Hedy and Peter Eckstein, of New Hampshire, son, Vincent Bastiaans, of Marysville, daughter and son-in-law; Ruby and CJ Graham, of Arizona, daughter and son-in-law; Tanja and George Jones, of Olivehurst, 27 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and many family members in the Netherlands.

He is preceded in death by Flora Ilse Bastiaans, wife of 50 years, his parents; Richard and Sophia Bastiaans, and sister, Erna Matray.

He enjoyed watching sports, especially boxing. He also liked to spend time outdoors camping and fishing. He most loved spending time with his family, sharing stories and jokes, and sitting in the sun.

A Celebration of life will be held at a future date.
