Richard Bernard (Butch) Ponciano Obituary

Richard Bernard (Butch) Ponciano passed away March 25, 2016 at Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville. He was born to Joseph and Mary Ponciano on July 14, 1932 in Chico, California, and lived in Colusa County for the last 59 years.

Richard worked for various phone companies in Colusa, retiring in 1997. He was very active in sports both as a player and coach. A prolific softball career as a pitcher for the Gerber Merchants, as well as the US Army Softball, and various local teams. Colusa High School Football Coach, Colusa Little League Coach and longtime umpire, President of the Colusa Redskin Athletic foundation. Richard served his country as a Sergeant for the US Army, in active duty during Korea.

Richard enjoyed golf, hunting , watching sports, and gardening with his wife Arlyne.

He is survived by his daughter Adele Ponciano, of Colusa; sons, Richard Ponciano Jr. of Moorpark, CA and Greg (Stephanie) Ponciano of Colusa; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and brother Kenneth Ponciano of Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Arlyne Ponciano and brother Joseph Ponciano.

Visitation will be held on March 31, 2016 from 5-8pm with a Rosary at 7pm at McNary-Moore Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Friday, April 1, 2016 at 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Colusa. Burial will follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Colusa Area Little League, P.O. Box 625, Colusa, CA 95932
