Richard D. Gibson Obituary

Richard D. Gibson, 60 years old, of Live Oak, CA, passed away in his sleep on March 18, 2015. Richard was born in Santa Rosa, CA in 1954 and is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Faye Gibson. Immediate surviving family members are his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Carol Gibson of Redding, CA, cousins, Diane Moyle Phenix of Grass Valley. CA, Phil and Gisela Moyle of Spokane WA.

Richard graduated Yuba City High School in 1972 and went on to earn a degree in electronics in San Francisco. He also built and ran his own recording studio, Gentle Giant Recording, when he lived in Chico, CA.

Richard was a gifted musician and was able to play a variety of instruments, but his love was playing drums. He was involved in music most of his life, being a DJ at KOBO radio station in Yuba City while in high school, and was drummer in the band Open Road, in the early 1970's. The most recent bands he drummed with are Swamp Daddy and Twoo Rivers. Some other bands he played with are: Charlie Robinson Trio & Quartet, With Strings Attached, Oceans Three and The Groove Diggers. In May of 2014, Richard was presented Yuba Sutter and Butte County's most accomplished/versatile drummer award, "King of the Shuffle on Drums" from the Yuba Sutter Blues Society.

Richard was known to his friends as "the gentle giant", was loved by many, and will be greatly missed. Richard's ashes will be scattered at a private family gathering this summer at Lake Almanor.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Richard on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Sopa Thai in Yuba City from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. All are welcome.
