Richard Douglas "Doug" Donahue Obituary

Richard Douglas "Doug" Donahue left this world peacefully in his sleep following a long illness on September 23, 2017, at the age of 86.

He was born and raised in Yuba County where he raised his family and was active in Little League Baseball and Softball, the Yuba County Sheriff's Department Reserves and the OPUD Water Board. He worked for 25 years at Yuba College where he received his AA degree and was very involved in the local community until moving to Auburn, California in 2005.

He served his Country proudly in the. U.S. Navy, returning to Yuba County and marrying his wife of 58 years, Carolyn in 1959. Together they raised five children (Dayna, Becky (Frank Cook) Karyn, Scott & Jamie) and enjoyed their five grandchildren (Ian, Georgia, Cameron, Tristan & Logan).

He loved his family and friends, his dogs, Duke and Sadie, riding horses and hunting in California and out of state, fishing and camping at Eagle Lake, vacationing at Donner with his family, dancing with his wife, tending to his prized roses and lemon tree, a red beer while telling stories and showing off his Chinese cooking skills to everyone.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, his children and their spouses, his grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins and numerous friends he considered his extended family.

He will join his father, Edward James Donahue; his mom and dad, Kenneth & Audrey George; his brothers, James Robert and Edward C. Donahue; and his sisters, Blanche Pethoud and Cleo Moore; who have all left this world.

He never met a stranger, was loved by many and will be missed daily. His memory lives in our hearts and will keep us all moving forward - living his legacy of helping others and enjoying the life we have been given.

You can honor Doug's memory by donating to Hospice through the Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital Foundation c/o Gift Processing Regional Office of Philanthropy, 2700 Gateway Oaks Drive, Suite 2200 Sacramento, CA 95833.

Per Doug's request, a Celebration of Life will be held in the spring at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at the Richard "Doug" Donahue Park located on Wheeler Ranch Drive in the Plumas Lake area. It's a 5-acre park with a large soccer field and a baseball diamond, so please feel free to bring your baseball or soccer gear for a pickup game in Doug's honor.
