Richard Lee Benedict was born in Raytown, MO to Mervin Benedict (deceased June 4 1969) and Beulah (Benedict) Edmondson (93) in Arroyo Grande, CA.
The family moved to Yuba City after the flood in 1956. Richard was the oldest of three brothers: Richard (73), William (64) of Nipomo, CA and David (58) of Lompoc, CA. He was also raised with Uncle Gene Benedict (Kansas City, MO).
Richard graduated as a Yuba City Honker in 1961. He was active in sports, including football, baseball, wrestling and school choir.
Richard served his country by joining the Navy Reserves in his Junior year of high school. His service was 1960-1965 M-Seabee 5 Oxnard, CA Vietnam Veteran, 1962 Navy Seals Team 5.
He married high school sweetheart Laura Otto in 1963. They have two children Eric (49), and Kristine (45).
In the 1970's, the family moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he worked as President of All State Thrift Savings and Loan. Then in 1985, he moved his family back home to Yuba City, where he worked as a Real Estate Loan Officer for Feather River State Bank, and later Owner of Benedict Contruction.
In 1991, Richard and his son Eric built thier home in the District 10 area. Richard was a Christian and had a strong faith in the Lord. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with friends and family. He was truly an outdoorsman.
Richard passed peacefuly at UC Davis Hospital in Sacramento, CA on November 22, 2016.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Laura (Otto) Benedict, son Eric Benedict and daughter Kristine Fawcett (Benedict), grandkids Eric Jr., Scotty, Makayla, Jacob, and great-granddaughter Mckenzie Benedict.
