Richard Peter Sokoloski Obituary

One year and 23 days after the passing of his wife, Teresa, our beloved father, uncle, grandfather and a great grandfather, Richard Peter Sokoloski, left to meet up with family in heaven on October 5, 2014. Dick was born in Beach, North Dakota on July 20, 1923. He had 10 siblings, who are all deceased.

Dick entered the military shortly after his 18th birthday, and served his country in the Navy during World War II. He is a survivor of the Battle of the Corral Sea where he was aboard the USS Lexington.

As a young sailor in New York, Dick met his wife Teresa at a USO club on the dance floor. They were married two months later and celebrated 70 years of marriage before her passing in September, 2013. They were blessed with 6 children: sons, Ric, Jerry (Sally), Tom (Meg), John (Gail), and daughters, Loretta Damron (Jeff), Roberta Livengood (Gary) and niece, Karen Lewis (Lew). Dick leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

After his time in the Navy, Dick's career as an air traffic controller for the FAA moved his growing family around the Western United States. They eventually settled in Yuba County in 1959. Richard retired from his position with the FAA after 30 years in August, 1978. Richard was an active member of St. Joseph's Church, the Notre Dame School community and the Knights of Columbus and is recognized as a 3rd Degree Knight. Dick and Teresa enjoyed many years of socializing with their friends through their participation in the Franklin Dance Club.

Dick was a master gardener and the fruits of his efforts were enjoyed over the years by family members and friends. Many a special occasion was celebrated in the Sokoloski home, enjoying the tasty garden treats. He also was a skilled craftsman and woodworker and has passed on those interests to his children and grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Teresa and eldest son Rick.

The family wishes to thank Kara Hubbard, Caregiver, the staff at Prestige Assisted Living and Sutter North Hospice for their support and concern for Dick.
