Richard Stephen James Farris Obituary

Feb 16, 1982 - May 20, 2013

Family, friends, caregivers and fellow Special Olympic athletes and coaches are all mourning the lost of Richard Farris, better known as (Ricky) who passed away at the young age of 31 on May 20, 2013.

Ricky was very active in Special Olympics for the past 12 years, participating in Basketball, Softball, and Track and Field. He was also active in the local Y/S People's First Meetings and activities including the monthly dances where he'd always be smiling and having a great time dancing with his girlfriend of 4 years, Nancy Okuda.

You always knew when Ricky was around because of that infamous, loud, boisterous laugh that could fill a room.

Ricky attended The Learning Center Day Program on "F" Street in Marysville for over 5 years. He was always a big help to all and had big dreams and a big personality. He loved the parties, the 'meal prep' days, working at his transit job, mowing lawns and especially getting paid. The director, Rebecca, remembers him coming in to her office almost every morning and plopping down on the chair saying, "how was your day?" Which, of course, was just beginning, and then he'd say, "I'm having a great day!" He was upbeat and always jumping in to help out.

Ricky was best known for being extremely friendly, out going and always the 'life of the party'. We will all sadly miss his smile and the love and enthusiasm he had for life.

Ricky is survived by many relatives from California to Kentucky including his father, Larry Farris, brother, Casey Farris and sister Melisa Farris, as well as many aunts and uncles; Keith & Beth Farris, Kevin Farris, Marty Farris, Rocky Farris, Jimmy Farris, Margaret Luthy, Theresa Keck, Virginia Hendricksen, Patricia Hitch, Sandra Sanders, Paula Cox, and Jennifer Morton. His mother, Barbara Farris, precedes him in death.

A potluck memorial service and celebration of Richard's life will be held at: The American Legion Post 807, 5477 Feather River Blvd, Olivehurst, Monday, June 17th from 6:00-8:00PM. For more information, call T.J. Fetters at 530-673-2961 or The Houstons at 530-415- 7576.
