Robert Norman Kells Jr. Obituary
April 26, 1924 - May 11, 2014

Robert passed away at the age of 90 at the Fountains in Yuba City on May 11, 2014.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Jean Kells; his parents, Robert N. Kells, Sr., and Norma E. Kells.

He is survived by 2 children, Kathy Garner (Tim) of Live Oak and James Kells of Yuba City. He has 4 grandchildren (children of Kathy and Tim) Becky, Sarah, Jeremy and Josh; and 2 great grandsons, Carson and Weston. He has 4 grandchildren (children of James) Crystal, Bobby, Moriah, and Sierra.

Robert was born in Yuba City in the ranch house on Walton Ave. He graduated from Lincoln Elementary School, Yuba City High School, and earned a bachelor's of Science degree in Animal Husbandry from UC Davis. He served in the Navy in World War II. He farmed orchards in Yuba City all of his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Robert and Jean traveled extensively with wonderful friends. He was all of his grandchildren's biggest fan. Robert and Jean never missed a ball game, school play, recital, county fair, or rodeo.

Robert led a very active, productive life. He was on the Board of Directors of Sunsweet for many years. He served as a founding director of Sutter Buttes Savings Bank, President of Live Oak Gun Club for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a very active 4-H leader for years. Served as Foreman of the Sutter County Grand Jury. He was an avid 49er fan, holding season tickets since 1953.

Robert was a very good farmer and business man. He was a man ahead of his time in this thinking. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and friend. Robert knew no strangers, he had a great sense of humor and quick wit and loved to kid people. He was generous, sometimes to a fault, he loved people and he had many, many wonderful friends. He will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Fountains for all the superb care they gave Robert his last years, and to Sutter North Hospice for their help his last few weeks.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Fountains, Sutter North Hospice, 4-H or FFA, District 3 High School Rodeo or the .

Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Sutter Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel.
