Robert P. Ready Obituary

Lt. Colonel Robert P. Ready, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 17, 2016 with his wife and a daughter by his side. Born in Houston, TX, he traveled the United States with his family throughout his 20-year Air Force career. Among many aircrafts, Bob piloted the B-47 Stratojet and the B-58 Hustler during the Cold War of the 60's. At 21 years old, he was the youngest commander of a B-47 crew in the 7th Air Force. As a B-58 pilot, he was a member of the Mach II Club, having traveled in excess of twice the speed of sound. He also served in Vietnam. Bob was a Field Maintenance Squadron Commander at Beale AFB when he retired from the military in 1974. While in the USAF, he earned degrees from USC and Ball State University. Following retirement, he became a hospital administrator at the Marysville Medical Clinic.

As a youngster, Dad earned the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America, an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed school and never had an absence through 8th grade. Dad enjoyed the outdoors and fishing, in particular. However, Dad's favorite pastime was airplanes. He received his pilot's license when he was 18 years old and later purchased his first plane, a fabric winged Luscombe. He was happiest flying in his Bellanca Super Viking with his family. As the Bellanca was rated for aerobatics, Dad frequently enjoyed sharing that aeronautical aspect with his kids! He always saw the bright spot in any situation. He had quite a mind for history and geography, a person who had an immediate recall of facts, places and events. Dad will be remembered as a very loving husband, father and grandfather.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine Ready and his children, Susan (Troy) Young of Live Oak, Pamela Ready of Bakersfield and Mark (Beckie) Ready of Michigan. He also leaves a grandson, Taylor Patrick, a granddaughter, Kathryn Elizabeth and step grandkids, Nicole Marie and Elliot Fredrick.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the National Veterans Cemetery in Bakersfield with military honors.
