Robert R. Atkinson Obituary


Robert R. Atkinson, 82, of Yuba City, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on the evening of July 30, 2016. He was in the company of his wife, Della, with daughter, JaDell Schadewitz and his sister, Ann Thompson of Lincoln, NE.

"Bob" as known to his friends, was born May 14, 1934 to William and Irene (Clark) Atkinson of Springview, NE. He spent his childhood in Nebraska and graduated from Rock County High School in Bassett with the class of 1952.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Atkinson and grandson, Thad Norton all of Nebraska.

He is survived by sisters, Georgia Peterson of Bassett, NE and Ann (DuWayne) Thompson of Lincoln, NE.

Bob worked for the Bureau of Reclamation and later, the State of California, as a Right Of Way agent until his retirement in December 10, 1995. He settled in Yuba City where he resided for 60 years.

In 1974, he married Della (Pieratt-Gomes). For the next 42 years they enjoyed many social activities including square dancing, golf, camping and traveling. They were active members of the Hope Point Nazarene Church on George Washington Blvd. and he was a long standing member of the Moose Lodge. They had many memorable adventures with their combined families.

Survivors include: Della's children, Andre' Pieratt, his wife Cathy and children: Meghan and Brian, Curtis Pieratt and his son, Jacques of Santa Cruz. Her daughter, JaDell and husband Charlie Schadewitz and daughter Megan of San Jose. Bob's children include: Reggie Atkinson of Utah, David, his wife Lisa of Lincoln, NE and Debbie (Clark) Norton of New Salem, SD. He was also blessed with 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, all of whom live out of state.

Graveside services will be held at the Sutter Cemetery on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 10:00 am. A memorial reception will follow at New Earth Market in Yuba City, 1475 Tharp Rd., Yuba City.
