Robert Staudenraus Obituary

Robert Staudenraus passed away April 24, 2016 just five days short of his 88th birthday. "Bob" was born in rural farm country near Gannvalley, South Dakota on April 29, 1928. Transportation to school was riding the family horse with his sister Carmel at the reins. The family left South Dakota to escape the dust storms and plagues of grasshoppers to find a better life in California. Stockton, CA became their new home and a place of opportunity. Bob graduated from Stockton High School and attended junior college at what is now the University of the Pacific. Upon completion of his formal education, he began his career in farming. Farming in Stockton and Marysville, Bob became a pioneer in raising wild rice in California.

Introduced by their mothers, Bob and Yvonne (Bonnie) married in 1966. They moved to Marysville and have resided here since that time. Together Bob and Bonnie built, developed, and expanded the Staudenraus Ranch, raising rice, walnuts, and wild rice. Together they enjoyed traveling, dancing, and dogs. Dogs were always a big part of Bob's life; he adopted countless strays that showed up at the ranch. These dogs were lucky to live out their lives enjoying ranch life, well fed and loved. His "special" dogs traveled with him to and from the ranch, living a great life between home and the ranch. Three of his favorites were Pete, Pepper, and of course Abbie, who is still waiting for him to return.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mabel Staudenraus and two sisters, Carmel Cavanaugh and Dolores Staudenraus. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonnie; daughter Debra Emerson (Dale); and sister Mary Ann Roddy as well as several nieces and nephews. Bob will be forever dearly loved and missed.

A mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at St. Isadore's Catholic Church, 222 Clark Ave. Yuba City, CA. A reception will follow at Ruthy's Restaurant, 229 Clark Ave. Yuba City, CA.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Sutter Buttes Canine Rescue, 585 Meyers Ave. Gridley, CA 95948 or to a .
