Nena attended Yuba College to study Early Childhood Education and later worked as a Head Start teacher. She also ran the St. Isidore Nursery and nannied for many children in the area. Nena was a dedicated parent and spent many years chauffeuring her daughters to school and many extracurricular activities.

She taught CCD at St. Isidore and happily volunteered for Girl Scouts, YSYSL soccer, and the PTA's of Lincoln School, Andros Karperos, and Yuba City High School. She also generously donated her time to the Western Farm Workers Association.

Nena loved salsa dancing and enthusiastically watched all sports, especially football. Over the last few years, she participated in the perpetual adoration of the eucharist and cared for her grandchildren.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rosa Edith and Percival de la Rosa of San Jose, CA; her daughter, Emi Hughes of Yuba City, CA; her sisters Cecilia, Elda, Edith; and her brothers, Dario and Javier; and two grandchildren; as well as many devoted friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David; her brothers, Gonzalo, Alberto; her sister, Stella; and her granddaughter, Louisa Hughes de la Rosa.
