Rudolph Austin (Steve) Couts Obituary
Rudolph Austin (Steve) Couts
Steve Couts passed away peacefully on July 27, 2016 in Marysville, CA at 78 years of age.

He started his journey on Earth in Whitefield, Oklahoma on August 29, 1937 as son to Clarence "Roy" and Ruby Couts, who, when Steve was young, relocated the family to California and settled in Olivehurst, Yuba County. He was to spend the rest of his life as a Yuba-Sutter Area resident.

Steve graduated from Marysville High School in 1955 where he was to meet many lifelong friends as well as his high school sweetheart and first wife, Cecilia. Steve and Cecilia would go on to have four children- Steve, Debbie, Shelly and Cory-and be active in the community until her passing in 1974.

Steve was to marry again, to wife Jill, in 1984. They met at The Office, a Marysville cocktail lounge Steve co-owned during his time as an entrepreneur and local businessman. They would have two daughters-Kari and Nicki-and, while the marriage did not endure, Steve and Jill were friends until her passing in 2014.

The majority of Steve's working life was spent as a loyal member of the John C. Bayes Ford (later Geweke) team in Marysville, CA, moving up through the Service Department and earning the respect and friendship of co-workers and customers alike. In semi-retirement, Steve drove a school bus for students with disabilities and loved his title of "Mr. Bus Driver" almost as much as his riders loved him.

Baseball was his passion and Steve was active in the Marysville and Yuba City baseball and softball community for most of his adult life. Whether coaching and managing young baseball players, cheering on his kids' and grandkids' teams or playing the sport himself, Steve brought his love of the game and kind spirit to the diamond at each and every outing.

Steve will be known primarily for his sense of humor, pride in his children and consistently being one of the nicest people anyone had ever met-as described by most who knew him.

Steve is survived by his brother Thomas Couts of Clermont, FL; sister Barbara Evans of Yuba City, CA; daughters Debbie Trask, Kari Couts, Nicki Couts of Yuba City, CA; daughter Shelly Jauron of Sparks, NV; son Cory Couts of Venice, CA; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Cecilia (Newman) Couts; former wife and friend Jillian (Thomason) Couts; son Daryl Stephen "Steve" Couts; parents Clarence "Roy" and Ruby Couts; brothers Clarence "Bo" Couts and Donald Couts.
