Russell H. Mickelsen Obituary

Dec. 30, 1926 – Mar. 5, 2016

Russell M. Mickelsen, a California native, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2016 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia of 37 years. He shared his life with his stepson's Robert Mickelsen and Roy Clements, his stepdaughters Sharon Baca and Cindy Egan, 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, nephew Greg Curtis and niece Lorrie Marsh. He grew up in San Mateo, CA, graduating from San Mateo High School in June 1944. Following his graduation at the age of 16, he enlisted in the Army and served in two wars, World War II and The Korean war. After serving his country, he started working in the pool industry at Paddock Pools & Engineering in San Mateo. He left Paddock to start Aladdin Pool Service followed by Pool Products in 1957, both in San Mateo. Throughout his career he was very highly thought of by the industry and finally sold his business in 1990. In addition to running a successful business, Russ was an avid pilot and he took every chance he could to fly his beloved Bonanza. Russ was also passionate about animals. In honor of his cousin, Clayton Mickelsen, who graduated from Washington State Veterinary School and was killed in World War II, Russ funded a scholarship for veterinary students at WSU. He has also funded a scholarship for students at U.C. Davis Veterinarian School.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mickelsen and his daughter, Marlene Harris.

Burial will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 2:30 pm at Sutter Cemetery in Sutter, CA in the Veterans Memorial building followed by a celebration of life at Marcello's on Bridge St. in Yuba City, CA. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to .
