Davis and Edith Shinn Davis, Ruth spent her early years in Clearwater, Kansas and Missouri. She graduated from Wichita School of Nursing in 1938. In 1939, she relocated to Marysville to work at Rideout Memorial Hospital, where she lived with the nurses in the 4th floor dorm. She worked at the hospital for several years, following which she spent many years working for Dr. Joseph Salopek and Dr. Stanley Parkinson.

On April 3, 1941, Ruth married Max Johnson in Wichita, Kansas and they settled in Marysville. Ruth is survived by three daughters, Francie Lindsey (Ray) of Riverbank, California, Ruthanne Leister (Ken) of Sandy, Utah, Holly Hopkins (Kevin) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one son, Mike Johnson (Barbi) of Marysville; 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
