Sara peacefully went to heaven at her home surrounded by friends and family on April 3, 2013 at the age of 87.

Born in Chico California to Harry and Irene Bruce, Sara attended several North State schools when they finally settled in Marysville. After graduating high school Sara worked at the hatchery and photo shop downtown. Sara then landed a job at Marysville Police department in 1955. She was a devoted employee until her retirement after 30 years of service.

Sara married Frank Kocol and had two children, Raymond Kocol and Julie Kocol Barton. Sara leaves behind a sister, Pat Gerrard, a daughter Julie Kocol Barton and (Rich Holland), two granddaughters Melanie Mitchell of Maxwell and Holly and (Bill) Gallagher of Colusa. Sara has five great grandchildren Cassandra and Isaiah Gutierrez, Brook and Hope Gallagher and Daniel Cuenca. She also had one great-great granddaughter, Niellie. Sara has 6 nieces and nephews.

Sara married Jim Carlson of Colusa and lived in Colusa for 25 years until his death when she moved back to Marysville. During their marriage they camped out and traveled in the motorhome, they went to all the States; they loved the road, Moose Lodges, oceans, mountains and Alaska. They also attended many airshows across the states.

Sara was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Spence, husband Jim and son Raymond Kocol.

Sara was an active member of the First Christian Church all of her life, a member of the Women's Peace Officers Association and the Ladies of the Moose.

Sara was a sweet, soft spoken, kind woman and always willing to listen. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Service: Saturday April 13, 2013 at 1:00pm First Christian Church 808 8th Street Marysville, CA. Followed by a Celebration of Life in the church hall. Donations to Sutter North Hospice
