Sawarn Singh Basrai Obituary

Sawarn Singh Basrai 86 years old, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2015 at his home. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and faithful friend.

Born in India, he earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from Punjab University before traveling to England with his young family and later venturing to America. He settled in Yuba City and for nearly 60 years was involved in farming. He had a passion for tree crops such as peaches, prunes and walnuts. He also enjoyed attending to his garden which he planted yearly, and welcomed the community to enjoy its many fruits and vegetables.

Committed to education, his own and others, he took great pride in educating his children. He had an enduring intellectual curiosity and was a voracious reader, mostly reading about history, politics and current world affairs. He enjoyed international travel, having visited five continents.

Sawarn could always be counted on to help those in need, family or stranger. He helped many establish a foothold toward economic and educational advancement. He took pride in his U.S. citizenship and never missed voting in an election.
