Stanley A. Coolidge Obituary

Stanley A. Coolidge, Jr., (78) died on October 9, 2017 with his Fiancée, Roseann Hannah, at his home in Loma Rica during the Cascade Fire. Stan was an attorney in the Yuba-Sutter Area for over 40 years before retiring. He had also served as a Reserve Sheriff's Deputy in the Yuba County Foothills in the early 1970's, as a Judge Pro Tem and as an Arbitrator.

He was a longtime member of The Americans Motorcycle Club (a motorcycle club which raised funds to cure Children's Cancer), serving as President of the Chapter of the Eagle, Attorney General of the National Club and Advisor to the President of the National Club. He was a former member of the Yuba City Noon Rotary Club, a former member of the Yuba-Sutter Bar Association, the national representative of the 13 western states for the Trial Lawyers Association, a volunteer for the Public Television Station, and an adviser to the Ronald Reagan Gubernatorial Campaign. He served in the ROTC during college and participated and volunteered for numerous organizations in the Yuba-Sutter Area. Stan also served on the Beckworth Frontier Days committee and played Judge Stephen J Fields in reenactment events which took place during the celebration. He enjoyed staging puppet shows through the club for young children and sometimes did so for sick children as well.

Born in San Francisco on May 17, 1939, Stan had been a resident of Loma Rica for 50 years. He was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with both his Bachelor Degree and Law Degree from Bolt Hall where he made Law Review.

Among his most noted litigation as an attorney was representing Yuba City High School Bus Crash Victims when a charter bus carrying members of the Yuba City High School Choir were killed during a tragic crash on May 21, 1976. He, along with his former law partner, also represented victims of the 1987 Linda Flood which years later resulted in a positive result for hundreds of families.

Stan was the father of Stephen Coolidge, who preceded him in death; Karen Lockhart (husband Jon Lockhart), of Yuba City; and Andrew Coolidge (wife Julia Coolidge), of Chico; and was the grandfather of ten grandchildren (Candice, Courtney, Christian, Megan, Mackenzie, Leeza, Adrian, Caroline, Conrad and Scaasi), and one great-grandchild (Mateo). Stan also has two half brothers, Douglas Petrie and Thomas Petrie, of New Jersey. He was previously married to Constance Coolidge for over 36 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Merbeth Petrie of Garfield, NJ and his father, Stanley A. Coolidge Sr. of Marin, CA.

More than anything in the world Coolidge loved to ride his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He enjoyed getting to know people on a personal level. He used his professional skills to help people who could otherwise not find it. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather and friend to many. He enjoyed writing in his spare time and had written several short stories.
A joint service for the couple will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 2 pm at the Veteran's Memorial Hall in Yuba City. Donations, in lieu of flowers, are asked to be given to the Americans Motorcycle Club and can be mailed to PO Box 1834, Yuba City, CA 95992.
