steve Smith Obituary

August 8, 1949 – May 18, 2017

Surrounded by his loving family, Steve, 67, a resident of Marysville, lost his courageous battle to pancreatic cancer. He will be missed by many.

Born in Sacramento, then living his early years in Maxwell, Clearlake, Fresno areas before settling in Marysville, where he resided with his family over 50 years.

A graduate off YCHS and Yuba College, Steve began a career in the clothing industry with an eye for detail and artistic instinct. He soon became known for his window displays at Jay's Dept. Store. Upon the store closure, he started a second career at PG&E as a meter reader then eventually worked as a customer service rep. He served his coworkers as a union representative and was known to be firm, but fair in his dealings with union matters. He retired with 30 years of service from the Marysville office. He will be remembered as the "Smiling CSR" that ate sunflower seeds.

He was a giving and generous man who was fiercely loyal to his family, friends and community. His organization skills were legendary in his service to Marysville Little League. A creative artist, he lent his artistic eye and vast treasure trove of collectables to many a high school prom and grad night.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Georgette; sons, Jarrad (Amanda) and Matthew (Darcy), all of Marysville; 10 grandchildren, Camryn, Liz, Veda, Nick, Hailee Rose, Zack, Olivia, Luke, Deegan and Ryder and a sister Cindy (Raul) Villarreal of Rancho Murrieta, CA.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Pryor Fisch of Sacramento; father Walter Smith of Alaska and in-laws John and Frances Hrico of Marysville.

Per his request there will be no services. A Celebration of Life may be announced at a later date.

Contributions in his name may be made to "Freedom Home Health & Hospice Care", 825 9th Street, Suite B, Marysville, CA 95901.
