Thomas A. Batch Obituary

Rev. Thomas A. Batch, who served since 1984 as a priest of the Diocese of Sacramento, died August 24, 2015 in Yuba City. He was 92.

Auxiliary Bishop Myron J. Cotta will preside at a funeral Mass on Thursday, September 3 at 10 a.m. in St. Isidore Church, 222 Clark Ave. in Yuba City. Vigil service will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 7 p.m. in St. Isidore Church. Burial will follow the Mass and reception on September 3, 2015 at Sutter Cemetery, 7200 Butte Ave. in Sutter.

Rev. Batch was ordained on March 17, 1984, in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento by Bishop Francis A. Quinn, after completing studies for the priesthood at St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park. He served as pastor of St. Paul Parish in Knights Landing from 1991 to 1999. He also served as parochial vicar of St. Isidore Parish from 1984 to 1990. He was chaplain at Methodist Hospital, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center and Bruceville Terrace convalescent facility in 1990-91. He retired on September 30, 1999. He was privileged to celebrate Mass with Mother Teresa while he visited Europe and also have Mass with the choir at Castel Gandolfo with Pope John Paul II. He was also a talented professional piano player in his younger years and loved singing and playing the piano.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, Kenneth and Howard.

He is survived by his two half-sisters, Harriet Melchioris and Jean Deller, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends appreciate all the care which Father Tom received during his final years of life, especially from the staff of River Valley Care Center of Live Oak; Marisa Graham of Interim Health Care, and her staff of Monica, Shanti, Sania, Laura, Tina, Mandy, Matt, Chelsea, Maggie and Austinia, who took care of Father Tom for the last nine months. Thank you also to Andre Howard of Rideout Hospice and his staff of Amy, Terry, Emily, Christina and Joyce, and the excellent care they provided to Father Tom. Thank you also to Marty Norton, who served as Father Tom's conservator for a number of years.
