Thomas Anthony Pochert Obituary

Thomas Anthony Pochert, 78, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Browns Valley, California, passed away after a brave battle with cancer on October 12, 2017. Tom was born on January 12, 1939. He was the oldest of five children and grew up in Milwaukee where he honed his tremendous skills as an artist (which included oil painting, wood carving, and sculpting) at his parents' Sketch Mart art supply store and Sketch Bar. Tom graduated from Messmer High School in 1957. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in 1963, with a Master's degree in Art Education. He moved to the Los Angeles area in 1963, and worked as an art teacher and tennis coach at Bassett High School. Tom made many friends and had very fond memories of his time in Southern California. On January 14, 1967, he married Janice (Roemhildt), who he met while teaching at Bassett High School. His daughter, Jeanne-Marie, was born in October 1971. In 1978, he moved his family to Browns Valley, California, and with the help of his brother, Gary, built his perfect dream house. His peaceful "country living" and family were the joys of Tom's life, and he became very attached to the Browns Valley and Marysville area. Tom loved his wife, and they enjoyed camping, road trips, their homegrown fruits and vegetables, and spending time together. Tom was passionate about his fruit trees, fishing, golfing, cooking, the Green Bay Packers, and the Sacramento Kings. He owned a wood sign business that he operated at his home. Tom was also very active in the fishing and golfing divisions of the Sons in Retirement ("SIRs"). Later in life he basked in the joys of being a grandfather to Ryan Anthony and Jillian Margaret, and spent time teaching them the finer points of golfing, baiting a hook, spotting deer at the "Ranch," picking fruit, sneaking cookies, ice cream at Collins Lake, driving a tractor mower, and drawing. Tom is preceded in death by his father, Anthony, and his mother, Margaret. Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice, his daughter, Jeanne-Marie (Jim), grandchildren, Ryan and Jillian; and siblings, Tonia Kountz, Gary Pochert, Christine (Jerry) Pochert-Ringle, and Terry Urban. Tom lived a wonderful life, was well loved by everyone, and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the . A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date to be determined.
