Thomas Avery (TA) Buckley Obituary

Thomas Avery "TA" Buckley, age 90, passed away at his residence in Igo, CA on July 19, 2015. TA was born February 3, 1925 in Meeker, OK to R.A. and Mamie Buckley.

He was a retired Civil Service Refrigeration Mechanic and worked at Beale AFB many years. He was a resident of Wheatland, CA for over 30 years, and lived in Olivehurst and Marysville many years prior.

Survivors are children: Rickea Dotson (Bill Harris) of Gridley, CA; Kathy Brogdon (Davis) of Trinidad, CA, son: Robin Buckley (Karen) of Marysville, CA, Bill Hobbs (Kathleen) of Igo, CA. He also leaves thirteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

TA served 2 years in the US Army being drafted at age 18 into World War II, an injury in WWII awarded him a Purple Heart.

TA was preceded in death by his wives: Violette Buckley and Barbara Ferguson; son: Thomas Alan Buckley; grandson: Matthew Dotson; brother: Richard Buckley and sister; Geneva Relerford.

TA's professional baseball career with the St. Louis Cardinals was ended by his injury in WWII at the age of 19, but he continued to coach his sons in Little League, TA was a pitcher for Olivehurst Merchants, one of the founders of the Olivehurst-Linda Little League and past President of Babe Ruth League. He was also an avid gardener, fisherman and sportsman.

Services are scheduled and under the direction of Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel on July 31, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. and will be held at the Veterans Chapel at Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo, CA (Anderson/Redding area).

TA, dad, grandpa will be terribly missed by his friends, children and grandchildren, his dogs Marley and Max, and all in the community of Igo where they embraced him with such love and caring.
