Tommy Joe Weatherford Obituary

Tommy Joe Weatherford, 84, of Marysville, CA died peacefully after a short illness on November 13, 2016. He was born in Quinton, Oklahoma on June 29, 1932 to Thomas (Red) and Francis Weatherford and moved to California in 1936 where they settled in the Marysville area.

Tommy was a proud veteran of the US Navy and served onboard the USS Princeton (CV-37) during the Korean War in the western pacific. His tales of Navy adventure inspired each of his sons to join the military, making them an entire family of veterans. He was a member of the USS Princeton Association and the American Legion Post 42.

Returning to Marysville after the Navy, Tommy joined the Operating Engineers Local 3 and spent the next 40 years of his career working on major infrastructure construction projects around northern California. An avid outdoorsman, after his retirement he could usually be found in the woods or on the river, enjoying his passion for hunting and fishing.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Jack and Flint, and his sister Helen Neves.

He is survived by his wife Kathy; his sons Mark, Mike and Matt; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the VFW Hall located at 211 E. 17th St., Marysville, CA. Friends and neighbors of Okie-Joe are welcome to attend.
