Twila McDow Lovelace Obituary

Twila McDow Lovelace passed away peacefully at her home in Colusa, CA early Thanksgiving morning on November 26, 2015. Twila was the daughter of Viola Rohel McDow and Charles E. McDow. She was born in Atwater, Illinois on June 3, 1933. Her family moved to Delevan, CA in 1934 where they resided with her aunt and uncle, Geo and Fannie McDow Corbin. Her mother died shortly after giving birth to Twila's sister Shirley. She and her sister remained at the Corbin home and were raised by Buelah and Al Brian, the Corbin's daughter and son-in-law. They were later adopted into the Brian family. Twila attended the Maxwell schools where she graduated in 1951. Her 1st date with her future husband was a skating party in her sophomore year. Charles William (Bill) Lovelace was a senior and later convinced Twila to marry him, their wedding was on June 20, 1952. During their 63 yeas of marriage they raised 5 children, Katherine Lovelace Roudabush (Robert), Charles W. Lovelace Jr. (Cindy), Susan Lovelace Keeley (Ralph), Lisa Lovelace Hickel (David) and Marc K. Lovelace (Kim).

Twila was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a calling she aspired to, and one she performed exceedingly well. She devoted herself to taking care of her husband and their 5 children. That mission never stopped. She kept track of each child's activities with almost daily phone calls. Her family was kept close to her and to each other no matter the distance. Twila was a wonderful housekeeper and great cook. A favorite pastime was collecting cookbooks and recipes. She also enjoyed reading and crocheting afghans to give away. Twila was a loyal and devoted friend and enjoyed hearing of their lives and growing families.

Bill Lovelace Jr. expressed in his Facebook post the feeling we all share.

Mom, A short simple word but wow (mom upside down) those 3 little letters are so meaningful. From the labors of childbirth, the caring of her newborns, the worrying of her teenagers and the never ending mothering of her adult children, that's who Mom was. We lost her early Thanksgiving morning and as Dad put it at dinner, she was a wife of more than 63 years, a mother, a grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her life was that of caring for her family, period. Like the ripples of a pebble tossed into a body of water, her time here created future generations that will continue to grow. The phone rang yesterday and my first thought was that's Mom and I realized, never again. As I'm typing this, emotions are creeping in as reality is so lastly.

I love you Mom, we all love you, God Bless.

She was preceded in death by her brother James Brian. She is survived by her husband Charles (Bill), five children and spouses, sister Shirley (Joe) Madia, brother Robert (Bev) Brian, her beloved Aunt Evelyn Rohel Swenson. She is also survived by her adored "Little Angels", grandchildren, Ashley Roudabush Parker (Jason), Hailey Roudabush Helton (Jonathan), Jenifer and Krista Lovelace, Ralph (Sara) Hayden and Grace Keeley, Joseph and Katie Kemp and Conner Lovelace. She is also survived by seven (so far) second generation of Little Angels, and numerous nieces and nephews, her aunt Lorraine Corbin (Toby) and her lifelong friend Eleanor Lovelace Beck. Twila will be greatly missed by all who knew her and who loved her. A farewell Celebration of Life will be held at the Colusa Golf and Country Club, January 31, 2016, at 1:00 pm.
