Virgil "Sam" Hamon Obituary

Virgil "Sam" Hamon passed away on October 13, 2017, in Marysville, CA. He was 76 years old. Virgil was born in Oakland, CA, on October 5th, 1941, and raised in Marysville. He and his sister, Fern, were raised on a ranch by his school teacher mother, Merle, and his father, Ferley, who was a rancher.

Virgil joined the U.S. Army in 1960, and served as a tanker in Germany. He was a sharpshooter with the tank gun and had the privilege of driving the tank in a movie with Ginger Rogers.

He met his love in 1963, when Delores Snider, of Merced, moved to Yuba City to work, and he was asked by friends to help her move to a new apartment. The rest was history. They were married on September 7th, 1963, and had 54 wonderful years together. They raised three daughters, Denise, Tonya, and Kandi, in the Yuba-Sutter area. During that time, Virgil worked as a plumber for Frank Booth, a butcher for Del Pero Mondon, and a groundsman for Marysville Unified School District.

Virgil will be remembered in the community for having a friend everywhere he went. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and all around outdoorsman. He spent time with his family and friends, doing the things that he loved, especially teaching his great grandson, Josiah, everything he could. Thank you to all of his life-long friends, the trips, fishing tournaments, the happy memories, the pranks at deer camp, and the good times.

He is survived by his wife of 54 wonderful years, Delores Hamon, three daughters, Denise Hamon (Andy) of Yuba City, CA, Tonya Rodriguez of Eureka, CA, Kandi Deal (Brett) of Lincoln, CA; and son-in-law, Elmo Deal of Yuba City, CA. Grandchildren, Jose Rodriguez, Nathan Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Shane Deal, and Sammy Deal. Great-grandchildren, Josiah and Jose; a sister, Fern Staas (Don), brother-in-law, Larry Snider (Gerry), sisters-in-law, Betty Bennett, Shirley Smith (Jim), Jeanette Eason (George), Pam Galan (Henry), multiple nieces and nephews, and children of the heart, Eileen and Lawrence John.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferley and Merle Hamon, in-laws, Henry and Ollie Mae Snider; brother-in-law, Cliff Bennett, and nephew, Howie Bennett.

Services will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel in Yuba City, CA, on Friday, October 20th, 2017, at 11am. Reception will follow at the Marysville Art Club, 420 10th Street, Marysville.
