Virginia M. Coe Obituary

Virginia was born November 12, 1925 to Lawrence E. Brooks and Hazel Brooks in Red Oak, Iowa. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and was a graduate of North High School in Des Moines. She passed away on May 19, 2015 in Wheatland, CA. She is survived by her brother William (Bill) Brooks, and sister-in-law Dee Brooks, son David Coe, and daughter-in-law Judy Coe, son Robert Coe Jr., grandchildren Steve Coe, Shirden Coe, Casey Coe, Amanda Coe, Caitlin Coe, Aaron Coe, Cody Williams-Coe, and Nick Havens-Coe, and one great-grandson Ethan Hulsey. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Lawrence Brooks, her first husband Paul Conners, her husband Robert Coe Sr., and her grandson Michael Coe.

After losing her first husband to cancer at the age of 21, Virginia and her parents set out from Iowa to a new home in California. Virginia met her husband Robert at a dance in Sacramento and they were married in March of 1949. They were married for 56 years. Virginia had been a "Rosie the Riveter" while living in Des Moines, working in an ordinance factory. She worked for several banks, a film depot, and for the State of California before marrying. She was a stay-at-home mom for the rest of her life, raising two children and helping with many grandchildren.

She was a member of the Wheatland PTA, a Sunday school teacher at First Christian Church in Wheatland, a Den mother for Wheatland Cub Scouts and a member of the Wheatland Supper Club and the Sutter Buttes Doll and Study club. She was an avid garage sale buyer, and enjoyed collecting antiques and dolls, and helping out with her grandchildren. She owned many dogs and cats over a long period of years, and spent many of her last years with her dog, Pepe, in her lap.

A loving and giving mother and grandmother, she will be sorely missed by her family.

Services will be at the First Christian Church in Wheatland, CA, on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at 2:00pm - reception to follow at Pioneer Hall. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Wheatland First Christian Church, or the Sierra Nevada Winds would be appreciated.

Funeral services are under the direction of Lipp & Sullivan Funeral Directors.
