Walter S. Ferguson Obituary

Walter S. (Bud) Ferguson of Oroville, CA passed away on St. Patrick's Day after complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Bud grew up on Long Island, N.Y., and earned a civil engineering degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he became a brother in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He joined the Air Force and became a navigator with a B-29 squadron based in Topeka, Kansas. He was stationed at Stead Air Force Base in Reno before being honorably discharged in 1955.

While in Reno, NV Bud met Connie Brown and they were married in 1954. They moved to the Marysville/Yuba City area and he was hired as a civil engineer with Caltrans in 1956. The couple raised daughters Debbie and Pam as Bud worked in various facets of highway construction before retiring in 1991.

Bud and Connie moved to Kelly Ridge so Bud could enjoy retirement sailing his 22-foot sailboat on Lake Oroville. He was active in the U.S. Power Squadron's Feather River group, Sons In Retirement Branch 83, the Oroville Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 196, the Oroville Yacht Club, and the Butte County Sheriff's Team of Active Retired Seniors (STARS).

He is survived by wife of 61 years, Connie; daughters Deborah Sanders of Yuba City, CA and Pamela Haessly of Novato, CA; one grandson, Scott Ferguson; and his favorite lap cat, Shady. He was preceded in death by brothers Gerard and Robert Ferguson.

Visitation: Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 4-8 pm at Scheer Memorial Chapel, 2410 Foothill Blvd., Oroville. Funeral Service: Chapel Service will be held at Scheer Memorial on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 1pm. Followed by a committal service at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5646 Lincoln Blvd., Oroville, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Bud's name to Alzheimer's or cancer research foundations. Services are under the care of Scheer Memorial
