Warren Setzer Obituary

Warren Setzer of Yuba City, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Summerfield Senior Living at the age of 91. He was born in Dayton, Nevada, to Robert W. and Arvilla (Ruff) Setzer. Warren graduated from Marysville High School in 1941 and was drafted into the Army in February 1943. While stationed at Camp Pinedale near Fresno, he met the love of his life, Barbara Bennett. They were married in 1946 in Fresno.

After his discharge, they moved to Hammonton where he worked on the gold dredgers. Most of his memories in the last few years were of his time in Hammonton and on the dredgers.

Warren and Barbara had a daughter, Sharon, in 1947, who died at the age of 7 months. Warren lost his arm in a dredger accident 1949 but continued to work there until he went back to college. Their son, Mark, was born in 1956. In 1958, they moved to Neil Drive in Yuba City, the first house on the block! After college at Chico State, Warren taught Driver Education and Basic Math at Yuba City High School from 1968 to 1985. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Operating Engineers.

Warren was preceded in death by Barbara, his children Sharon and Mark, and his brother Robert C. Setzer. He is survived by his grandchildren Jean of Eureka, Montana, and Mark of Lewistown, Montana; daughter-in-law Linda Setzer of Eureka, Montana; nieces Deena and Greg Unger of Anderson, California, Dawna and Brian King of Vacaville, California, Barbara Lee Flatt of Oroville, California; and numerous relatives in North Carolina.

Friends are invited to visit on Monday, April 27, from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Sierra View Mortuary. Services will be at the mortuary on Monday at 11:00 a.m., with committal to follow at Sierra View Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the caregivers of Summerfield Senior Living and Sutter North Hospice for caring for Warren in his final days.
