William (Bill) Beebee Obituary

William (Bill) Beebee passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015, in his Browns Valley home while being cared for by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon; his children David Beebee, Anne Covert (Tobin), Chris Beebee (Eszter), and Kate Meyer (Ben); grandchildren Tori and Aaron Covert, Liya Meyer, Eloen Beebee, Lola and Felix Beebee; close cousin Kelcey Hollis (Derek), brother-in-law Dennis Kirby (Stephanie), sister-in-law Dorothy Beebee, nieces, a nephew and many dear friends and colleagues.

Bill was born in Alameda, California on May 27, 1938 to Martin and Lena Beebee. He and his brother, Robert (deceased), were raised in the Bay Area but spent much time on their grandparents' ranch in Chicago Park near Grass Valley. Bill attended California Concordia High School and College in Oakland completing his bachelor's degree at Concordia Lutheran Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois. His first teaching assignment was in Long Island, New York. He and Sharon were married and spent their first years together in a grand adventure of teaching, exploring the east coast and driving cross country numerous times to visit family in California.

In 1963, Bill and Sharon moved to Yuba City after being offered a teaching position at First Lutheran School. He remained there as a beloved teaching-principal for nearly 30 years. After retiring from the Lutheran teaching ministry, Bill taught for Marysville Unified School District for five years followed by part-time teaching for Sutter County Schools up until months before his death. Bill was a born teacher, loved and respected for his kindness, patience and commitment to his students. In recent years, he was excited to be working with the students and staff at Feather River Academy and was honored and proud to deliver the speech at their graduation ceremony last May.

Bill loved his family and his Australian Shepherd, Flossie. He was passionate about gardening and after moving to Browns Valley 16 years ago he turned his hillside property into a beautiful, peaceful setting. Every tree, plant, and flower is a reminder of Bill and his love of the land. Bill was a truly honorable, hardworking, and compassionate man who touched and made a difference in many, many lives. Now he can rest in peace with God knowing his was a life well lived.

The family is grateful for the care and kindness Bill received from the staff at Rideout Cancer Center and Sutter North Hospice. They have been a blessing and we thank them for all their efforts.

A private family burial will be at St. Paul's Cemetery in Chicago Park. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Lutheran Church followed by a gathering at the Browns Valley home he loved in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sutter County Superintendent of Schools - In Memory of Bill Beebee (SCSOS) , 970 Klamath Lane, Yuba City, CA 95993, or to First Lutheran Church, 850 Cooper Ave., Yuba City, 95991.
