William H. Washington Jr. Obituary

William H. Washington, Jr. (Tang, TangWay, Little Tang) was born on December 26, 1926 in Leavenworth, Kansas to William H. Washington, Sr. and Pearl B. Washington.

William served in the United States Army from December 12, 1945 to January 4, 1947. During this time, he celebrated the birth of his first child, Dolliver Beatrice. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 30, 1954. On September 6, 1958, William married his true love Barbara Jean Mitchell at Smokey Hill AFB in Kansas. Together they raised five children, Sherry, Floyd, Vicki, Cheryl and the last of which they proudly named William H. Washington III.

After being stationed at various Air Force bases, the family's final assignment was at Beale AFB in California (1966 thru 1976). He retired honorably at the rank of Master Sergeant after 23 years of service. William was a World War II, Korean War conflict, and Vietnam era veteran. After retiring from the Air Force, William attended Yuba College and earned his AS degree while also working for the Civil Service at the Army Depot at McMellan AFB in California. He retired from the Civil Service in 1990.

After a long-fought battle with Alzheimer's disease in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, William went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Barbara Jean; his parents, William, Sr. and Pearl Washington; sisters, Julia Mae Derrell, Nellie B. Derrell, Lessie L. Derrell and Henrietta Derrell; brothers, George O. Derrell, Nathaniel Lucien Derrell, John H. Derrell, Jr. and James S. Derrell.

William is survived by his loving family, children, Dolliver B. Iverson (James), Sherry M. Washington, Floyd L. Washington, Vicki L. Love (Randall), Cheryl A. Washington-Pittman (James) and William H. Washington, III; grandchildren, LaVetta D. Taylor (Edward), Nichelle B. Taylor-Sipes (Charles), Terrence W. Taylor (Melinda), Michael L. Kowalcik (Jessica), Densell A. Washington and Sojourner J. Love; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

William was interred at the National Cemetery at Ft. Leavenworth, KS
