William James Wingfield Obituary

William James Wingfield passed away on October 11, 2013 in Loveland, Colorado after a long battle with lung cancer.

Bill was born on October 12, 1940 to William and Mae (Caceres) Wingfield in Hilo, Hawaii. Bill traveled extensively as a child with his family. They moved to Arizona, New Mexico, back to Hawaii then to China. In China, Bill's father, as a Civil Air Transport pilot, was instrumental in transporting American and Nationalist Chinese personnel from mainland China to Taiwan during the Chinese Civil War. Bill attended parochial school in Peking, and had many adventures there from 1946 - 1949, including many visits to the Forbidden City.

The family then moved back to the U.S. and ultimately settled in Live Oak, California. Bill attended Live Oak High School and excelled in academics and athletics. In 1957, Bill married his high school sweetheart Barbara Corbin. They raised their children in Live Oak. Bill was very active in the Live Oak Lions Club, Live Oak Little League and was a member of the volunteer fire department. Bill worked as manager of Live Oak Warehouse and Farm Supply and then for many years he managed Occidental Chemicals in Live Oak. Bill and Barbara later divorced.

Bill then sold real estate for many years in the Yuba Sutter area. He was later active in the insurance industry specializing in agricultural crop insurance.

Bill and Delores Pharis were married in 1995 at Mt. Shasta. In 1998, they moved to Loveland, Colorado to be nearer the mountains they both loved. Bill enjoyed taking hikes in the Rocky Mountains and frequent visits to Estes Park. He also enjoyed visits with grandchildren and later, great-grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife, Delores; sons, William (Cindy) Wingfield of Live Oak, California, Matthew (Danielle) Wingfield of Roseville, California; daughter, Beth (Richard) Wharton of Weed, California; grandchildren Spencer Wingfield, Teal McCracken, Ian Wharton, Isabella Wharton; and great-grandchildren Bailey, Carleigh, Landon and William McCracken.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Scott; and grandson Ross Wingfield.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 10, 2014 at Live Oak Cemetery. A reception will follow at the home of William and Cindy Wingfield, 10992 North Butte Road in Live Oak.
