Army Specialist Chase Stone Marta
Our son, brother, nephew and friend, Army Specialist Chase Stone Marta was killed in action defending our country on May 7, 2012 at the age of 24. Spc Chase Marta lost his life in Ghazni province, Afghanistan as part of "Operation Enduring Freedom". Chase was a paratrooper assigned to 3rd Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, out of Fort Bragg, NC.
Chase was born on July 28, 1987 and was a lifelong resident of Yuba City, CA. Chase was the very loving son of Lawrence (Larry) Stephen Marta and Karyn Stone Marta of Yuba City and the super younger brother of Taylor Stone Marta of Palo Alto, CA. Chase is also survived by Taylor's fiance, Bryce Barrow of Palo Alto and several aunts, uncles and cousins, many of whom reside in Yuba City.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Lewis and Hassie Stone, Warren and Dorothy Vickers, Aunt Marie Stone and Cousin Ken Warner.
A 2006 Yuba City High School graduate, he also attended CSU Channel Islands and Butte College before finding his true calling in the US Army. Chase loved the Army and took great pride in being a part of the 82nd Airborne. He was a humble young man often receiving awards and honors without sharing the information with others. Choosing to postpone his college education, his sister said "he just wanted to do something right and noble."
Those closest to Chase remember him as being happy-go-lucky and always having a great sense of humor. As a self described "nerd" he lived for his computer, anime, and cars. He had a profound interest in military history, especially history from WWII and all the history of the 82nd Airborne.
He was also passionate about cooking and eating cuisine from around the world, especially spicy dishes. While attending college he was also interested in martial arts. He enjoyed the not only the physical discipline of the art but also the mental challenge. He excelled in everything he put his mind to. He was deeply loyal to his friends and family and is fondly remembered and sorely missed by many.
Services will be held Friday, May 18, 2012, at 11:00 A.M., at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, Yuba City, CA. Military Honors, US Army. Inurnment will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel.
