Ralph Victor Whiteley was born on June 18, 1916 to Joe and Alice Whiteley in Sterling, CO. During the Great Depression, his family (including sister Edna and brother William) moved to Mt. Shasta, CA by way of Toppenish, WA.
After his graduation from Mt. Shasta High School, Ralph began a long career in logging and heavy equipment operation. During this time, he married wife Fern Crawford on July 3, 1937 in Reno, NV. During World War II, Ralph worked in the Bay Area building Liberty ships. After the war, he returned to logging and by 1947 he and his family had made their way to Clipper Mills, CA. From 1959 until his retirement in 1980, he operated heavy equipment with the Operating Engineers Union, working on projects like the Oroville Dam and Bullards Bar Dam.
From his retirement until his passing on April 10 at the age of 97, he enjoyed many hobbies including chair caning, carpentry and genealogy.
He and his wife were members of the Timber Twirlers Square Dance Club, Grange Association, and Yuba Feather Historical Society. Ralph was a member of Mayflower Society, Sons of the American Revolution, and Masonic Lodge #50 in Forbestown, CA.
He is preceded in death by his wife Fern and son Raymond.
He is survived by his daughter Billie, sons Robert and David, and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services under direction of Lipp & Sullivan, 629 D St. Marysville, CA, will be held Wednesday, April 16 at 1:00 PM at the Brownsville Cemetery, 8980 La Porte Rd. Brownsville, CA.
