Charlie OV Tarrant, of Wheatland, passed away November 10, 2012 after a long illness with Alzheimer's disease.|
Charlie was born June 4, 1933 in Vernon, Texas to James and Nellie Tarrant. He attended schools in Goshen, CA and graduated from Wheatland High School in 1952 where he was a standout athlete in baseball, football and basketball.
Charlie lived his entire adult life in Wheatland. In 1966 Charlie and his long time friend, the late Donald Perkins, purchased Metcalf's Service Station which later became Charlie & Don's Service Station. After Charlie and Don sold the station he managed the mining operation at Patterson's Sand and Gravel in Sheridan, CA. He retired along with his wife in 1995.
Charlie enjoyed all the ball sports, but especially liked to hunt, fish, and water ski with his friends and family. In his Golden years he loved playing golf with his "golfing buddies", sons and grandsons.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 61 years Nancy (Wilson), sons Michael (Vicky) of Wheatland, Jim (Pam) of Yuba City, and Rick (Sandy) of Wheatland. He had 6 grandchildren, Jamie (Sherry), Jennifer (Patrick), Lea, Tawny (Larry), Shayna and Richie, and 6 great grandchildren, Telle, Steven, Gavin, Bodhin, Everest, and Landon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dewitt, and nephew Bobby.
