Ralph James (Jim) Dodge Obituary

Born Aug. 22, 1918 in Milwaukee, Wis., died peacefully on January 21, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Elizabeth Dodge and brother, Charles.

A Graduate of Marquette University, he enlisted in the Navy 3 days before Pearl Harbor, earning his wings in 1942 at Pensacola. He remained a flight instructor until joining the Pacific fleet in 1945, taking part in the invasion and occupation of Saipan before the end of WWII. Then being stationed in Hawaii, teaching night fighters in all weather training. He remained active in the Naval Reserve, flying Bearcats, Hellcats and Corsairs, among others at Glenview, IL as a weekend warrior. In 1950 he was called to form the first ALL Reserve Air Group to enter the Korean War, flying over a hundred missions from several air craft carriers, ending a Naval career that spanned 28 years.

After the war he returned to Milwaukee, joining his mother in running her secretarial school which she started in 1929. He started his branch of the school in Ft. Lauderdale in 1959.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sally; and 4 daughters, Renee Dodge, Elizabeth Koller, Virginia Dodge, Katherine Teeters.

He has been cremated and will be interred at Arlington Cemetery in August on his birthday.

A memorial celebration of life will be Wednesday, January 30 at 11 am at St. Daniels Catholic Church in Wheatland.
