Diane (Gayle) DeMattei, R.N.|
October 12, 1931 - February 7, 2013
Diane "Gayle" DeMattei passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2013 in the presence of her loving husband Gaetano DeMattei; eight children Tony, G, Chris, Peter, Siena, Marina, Tanya, Mia; daughter-in-law Gail; and dog Penny. Gayle is also survived by her sister Bonnie Wirth, Tallahassee, FL; adoring eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Gayle was born in Schenectady, New York in 1931, raised in Arlington, Virginia where she graduated from Washington-Lee High school. After high school, she achieved her R.N. from Georgetown University where she also met her husband of 57 years, Dr. Gaetano A. DeMattei. After Gayle's marriage in 1955 she lived in Oahu, Hawaii, San Francisco, Yuba City, and Browns Valley, CA before settling in Squaw Valley in 1977. Gayle, a dedicated wife and consummate mother, was tirelessly involved in all of her children's activities. Somehow she also found time to dynamically contribute to the Yuba Sutter Medical Auxiliary and 4-H Club. In her later years she volunteered at Tahoe Forest Hospital, served as the Far West Masters Race Coordinator and was Gaetano's supreme cheerleader as they traveled the world to Master's ski races.
Services will be held on February 14, 2013, 11:00 am at Queen of the Snows Catholic Church, Olympic Valley, CA.
