Charles Edward Dekens
Charles Edward Dekens passed away Monday, May 20, 2013. Charles resided in Live Oak for over 60 years.
"Chuck" was born July 24, 1924 in Inglewood, California to Margaret and Louis Dekens. His family moved to Live Oak in 1936 and bought the ranch at the east end of Pennington Road. Many people remember "Dekens Canal" which was a favorite swimming spot.
Chuck was a World War II veteran stationed in England with the 100th Bomb Group 8th Army Air Corp.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Maureen "Roonie" Dekens of Live Oak, CA; son, Mark Dekens (Kathy) of Ferndale, CA; daughter, Peggy Harshbarger (Keith) of Gridley, CA; and son, Charles "Ted" Dekens of Live Oak, CA. Other survivors include his grandchildren: Katie MacDonald, Annie Harshbarger, Molly Dekens, Charles "Woody" Dekens, Sam Dekens, Alicia Dekens; and his great-grandson, Conner MacDonald.
Preceding Chuck in death were his brothers: Mike, Jim, and Joe Dekens; sister, Teresa Wheeler; and daughter- in-law, Cindy Dekens. His brothers were all World War II veterans and his father Louis was a World War I veteran.
Funeral mass will be held Friday, May, 24, 2013, 10:00 am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gridley with Fr. Avram Brown. Funeral arrangements with Holycross Memorial Services. Burial will be at Live Oak Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Live Oak Cemetery Veterans Memorial Fund would be appreciated by his family.
