Robert L. Masera passed away on October 20, 2013 at the age of 86. Bob, as he was known to most, was born February 18, 1927 to Louis G. and Josephine Masera in Yuba City, California.
His wife Darlene preceded him in death on July 3, 1977.
He is currently survived by his wife Pauline G. Masera; brother Frank Masera of Yuba City and sister Inez Engstrom of Woodland. He was a devoted father and grandfather who leaves behind his four children, including Steve and his wife Michelle of Folsom, Kristi Ivaska and her husband Ben of Folsom, Michele Johnson and her husband Ed of Susanville, and Robert Masera II of West Sacramento, as well as twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, six nephews, and two nieces.
Bob started farming peaches with his father and brother Frank as a young man. During World War II, he took a leave from farming and joined the Navy. After his service with the Navy, Bob returned to California where he and his brother operated a successful farming enterprise, growing crops of peaches, prunes, walnuts, almonds and alfalfa on the Masera Brothers ranch in Yuba City until 1982.
After retirement, being an avid hunter and fisherman, you could normally find Bob, his brother Frank and other friends, in a fishing boat looking for the hot spots on the lake that day. In 1973 Bob and his children purchased a Cabin near Chester, California. This cabin was his hideaway for many years, where he had many a memorable day.
Robert passed away from complications after suffering the effects of Alzheimer's disease for eight years. The last three years of his life he was cared for at Prestige Assisted Living in Marysville where he had some excellent caregivers, who along with Pauline made his final days comfortable and pain free.
Visitation is at 6:00 p.m. with the Rosary following at 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 25th at Lipp and Sullivan in Marysville. There will be a Mass at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Yuba City at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, October 26th, followed by internment at Sierra View Cemetery in Olivehurst at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation at ALZfdn.org.
