Norman Ivan Helsem passed away June 4, 2014 at his daughter's home in Olivehurst. He was born May 4, 1917 in Marysville.|
He was a life long resident of the Yuba-Sutter area. He lived in Marysville until the age of 10, then he and his family moved to Sutter where he attended Franklin Grammar School and graduated from Sutter High School.
Norman married Pauline Patrick in 1941. He was a World War II Army Veteran. In 1946, he opened Norman Helsem Sheet Metal & Heating on Plumas Street. Later, his brother, Raymond, joined him in the business. He enjoyed spending time with family, gardening and watching the Giants and 49'ers.
Norman is survived by his daughters, Norma (Bill) Paden, Pamela (Don) Fair; son-in-law, Ronald Sims; eight grandchildren; Richard Fair, Lisa (David) Marchuk, Bill (Marie) Paden, Jeff (Blanca) Paden, David (Susan) Sims, Amanda (Paul) Anderson, Bradley Sims, Daniel (Anna) Sims; seven great grandchildren, Melissa Fair and Danielle Bardsort, Emma Thomas, Michael and Jonathan Sims and Sarah Anderson; one great- great grandchild Berlin Clavel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Pauline; his daughter Mickie Sims; grandson Mathew Fair; five brothers, Henry, Edwin, Charles, Harold and Raymond Helsem; and one sister, Irma Zigler.
Services will be held at the Memorial Building, Sutter Cemetery, Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11 AM.
