Albert L. Becker, age 86, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls. Graveside services with military graveside rites will be held this summer at Lorinda Cemetery, Henry, SD. Rev. Harold Becker, Albert's nephew, will officiate.
Albert was born on December 23, 1927, at Minneapolis, MN, to Louis and Hattie (Hammel) Becker. As a young boy, he moved to a farm north of Henry and lived with his aunt and uncle, Albert and Erna Scott. He enlisted in the US Navy
in 1951 and served four years during the Korean Conflict
. Following his honorable discharge, Albert moved to Sioux Falls where he worked in construction for a few years. He then worked for Montgomery Wards as an appliance technician for fifteen years. He also worked as a driver for Sioux Falls Auto Auction, Billion Automotive and Vern Eide Motor Cars.
He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the VFW
. Albert was an avid bowler and was in a bowling league for twenty years. He also enjoyed seeing his many friends at the senior center.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, but he was particularly close to Nancy Olson of Sarasota, FL, Terri-Lynn Becker of Bridgeport, CT, and Hal Becker of Wells, MN, and their families.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
