Bonnie D. Ellenbrand
Bonnie D. Ellenbrand of Sioux Falls, died peacefully on April 18, 2013, at Touchmark Waterford.
Bonnie was born on September 12, 1924 to Merle and Anna (Ricke) Denny in New Albany, IN. After graduating from high school, she attended Nazareth College in Louisville, KY. She married Martin O. Goodyear in 1946 and in 1948, they moved to the U.S. Air Force base in Fairbanks, AK. They lived in a small trailer with their daughters, Martine and Emily. Returning to Southern IN in 1950, they had two sons, John and David, and started a Mobile Home and RV business. While raising her four children, Bonnie was very active in helping to run the family business. She shared her husband's love for flying and earned her pilot's license by age 24. They enjoyed boating on the Ohio River and RV traveling around the country.
In 1981, she married Ralph E. Ellenbrand, a career naval officer. They lived in Floyd Knobs, IN, where they enjoyed gardening. She was certified as an Advanced Master Gardener and was an award- winning real estate agent. Ralph passed away in 2002. Bonnie moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 2004 to be close to her daughter, Emily. No matter where she lived, she was especially passionate about tennis, which she learned as a girl and continued to play regularly into her 80's. Bonnie was devoted to her family, giving whatever she could to support her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all ways. Her family is especially grateful for the loving care she received from the amazing staff of the Waterford Memory Care. They are the best!
Bonnie is deeply loved and will be missed by two brothers, Merle (Joyce) Denny of Houston, TX, Jerry (Jeanne) Denny of Louisville, KY; a sister, Judy (Jim) Jagielski of Springfield, VA; two daughters, Emily (Roy) Smith of Crooks, SD and Martine Brizius of Silver Springs, MD; two sons, John Goodyear of Salem, OR and David Goodyear of Coloma, MI; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Sandra) Smith of Mattoon, IL, Bonnie (Austin) Miller of Foley, MN, Amanda (Alec) Miller of Nashville, TN, Adam Smith of Honolulu, HI, Neil Goodyear of Tucson, AZ, Casey Goodyear of Phoenix, AZ, Ryan Goodyear of Hillsboro, OR, Bill Goodyear, USN; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The memorial service and burial will be on Aug. 24th in New Albany. IN. Memorials may be directed to the
