Carol Grimes

Carol Grimes, 77, of Sioux Falls, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Carol Ann Fjellestad was born October 24, 1936 to Leif and Ruth (Brown) Fjellestad at Hendricks, MN. She grew up near Astoria, SD where she received her education, graduating from Astoria High School in 1954. Following high school, she attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1958.

On December 14, 1958, she was united in marriage with Ronald A. Grimes at Astoria, SD. The couple moved to Sioux Falls in 1959 where Carol worked as a registered nurse in the orthopedics area at Sioux Valley Hospital for 34 years. She was a dedicated nurse, providing compassionate care to countless patients throughout the years. Due to health concerns, she retired from nursing in 1993.

Carol enjoyed traveling with her family and her husband, venturing all over the United States in their motor home. Her grandchildren were an important part of her life and she loved to hear about all their activities. In the spring of the year, she couldn't wait to plant her flowers and vegetable garden….a garden with lots of bright and beautiful colors. She had a real zest for life and there was so much that she still wanted to do. Carol will be remembered for her quick wit and her fun sense of humor, especially when it came to writing her annual Christmas letters.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Ron, of Sioux Falls; her children, Jody (Wayne) Fleischhacker, Jon (Carolyn) Grimes, and Steve (Lori) Grimes, all of Sioux Falls, SD; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and her brother, L. Donald (Kathy) Fjellestad of Sioux Falls, SD. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; and her sister, Mary Peterson.

Funeral services will begin 10:30 am Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.
