Dorothy L. Byrum
Dorothy L. Byrum, 80 years old, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013, at her residence. Visitation will be Monday, April 29 at 2:00pm with the family present from 5:00pm-7:00pm and a 7:00pm prayer service at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main, Sioux Falls. Funeral service will be Tuesday, April 30 at 10:30am at Asbury United Methodist Church, 2425 S. Western Ave, Sioux Falls. Interment will be at Hills of Rest Cemetery Tuesday, April 30 at 9:00am, prior to the funeral service.
Dorothy Louise LaFon was born June 27, 1932 in Waiteville, West Virginia to Lawrence and Clusty (Smith) LaFon. She graduated from Gary High School, Gary, WV in 1951. After graduating high school, she went to work for the FBI until being united in marriage to her husband, Forrest Byrum, in 1953. One year later, the couple moved to Rapid City, SD. In 1957, Dorothy and Forrest moved to Sioux Falls and has been a resident ever since.
Dorothy worked for Warren Supply, First Bank of South Dakota, and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Corp. while in Sioux Falls. She was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church and was active in various church groups. Dorothy has travelled to Washington, DC, Hawaii, and other destinations. She also enjoyed bowling and playing the card game 500.
Those left to cherish Dorothy's memory include: her daughters, Sharon (Bruce) Blumer of Mitchell, SD, and Janice Pedersen of Sartell, MN; grandchildren, Aaron (Jennifer) Blumer of Sioux Falls, and Ian (girlfriend, Ang Sussner) of San Diego, CA; Kelsey Pedersen of Sartell, MN, Logan Pedersen of Sartell, MN; great-granddaughter, Dera Blumer of Sioux Falls; sisters, Margaret Grimm of Alexandria, VA, Linda Bryant of Arlington, VA, and Nancy (Charles) Clyburn of Springfield, VA; sister-in-law, Judy LaFon of Sandy Level, VA. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Forrest; her parents; her sister, Alma LaFon Clark; and brothers, Sidney LaFon and Bobby Joe LaFon.
