Franklin Ahartz, age 68, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Milbank died June 28, 2013, at Sanford Hospice Care in Sioux Falls. Services will be Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Visitation will be held at Mundwiler Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 5 - 7 p.m. with a Scripture and Rosary Service beginning at 7 p.m.
Franklin Jerome Ahartz was born February 15, 1945, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Andrew and Helen (DeClerq) Ahartz. He attended school in Milbank and earned his GED in Sioux Falls. Frank was united in marriage with Joann Boogaard on September 5, 1964, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank.
Frank worked various jobs including car auto body and car sales. He operated a cleaning service and, while living in Sioux Falls, was a valet for Sanford Hospital. Frank loved music and enjoyed playing in a band. He loved people and people loved Frank! He was a "happy go lucky" man and could fix anything! He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially ice fishing. Frank was passionate about political affairs and enjoyed working on campaigns and attending rallies. Frank was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux Falls and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joann of Sioux Falls, SD; two sons and daughters-in-law: Shannon and Laura Ahartz of Henderson, NV; Trevor and Amber Ahartz of Des Moines, IA; four grandchildren: Camille, Adelynn, Jack, and Lailah, all of Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Helen Ahartz.
