Frank D. Hargus
Franklin Delano Hargus was born on Oct 16th 1933 to Clara Schwantz Hargus and Joseph Franklin Hargus in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up in Sioux Falls attending Franklin Elementary, Whittier Middle School and graduated from Washington High.
He was in the United States Army for two years, from 1955-1957. After his release, Frank met and married (Norma) Jane Hauber in 1958. They remained in Sioux Falls where they raised their five children.
Frank began work at John Morrell in 1958. He was employed there for over 40 years, when he retired to care for his wife Jane. After Jane's death, Frank worked at both Nash Finch and Qualified Presort.
Frank was a very dedicated father who took the time to coach his sons and daughters in baseball, softball, and Y basketball. He enjoyed taking his family on camping trips, ushering at First Lutheran Church, playing with grandchildren, and taking long walks. He enjoyed a very active life style, participating in marathons, 5Ks, 10Ks, and bicycling. He was a "Super Blood Donor", having donated 23+ gallons of blood.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife Jane, grandson Orion Lee Rodriguez, brothers Kenneth, Richard, Edwin, Wayland; sisters Bertha Cole, Marjorie Hiller, Helen Delfs Talsma, and Alice Kirkvold Osback; and his parents.
Grateful for having shared his life are his two sons: Doug (Melissa Johnson), Rockford, IL and Dean, Sioux Falls, and three daughters: Sally (Douglas Midthune), Kensington, MD, Vickie Snow (Robin), Renner, SD, Susan (Stan Crocker), Mount Vernon, IA; grandchildren, Liv Rodriguez, Kensington, MD, Simon and Oliver Crocker; Jesse, Nadia, and Evan Snow; great grandson Griffen Young; and his brother James Hargus, Long Beach, CA; and many loving friends and extended family.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 26th with family present from 3-5 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Miller Funeral Home on Tuesday May 27th at 1:00 pm.
