Glennys Meerdink, 86, of Sioux Falls, died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at her residence.
Glennys E. Lokken was born September 29, 1927 in Irene, SD to Oscar and Karen (Larson) Lokken. She moved with her family to Sioux Falls, SD at the age of three where she grew up and received her education. She graduated from Washington High School in 1945. Following graduation, Glennys furthered her education at Augustana College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1949.
On November 24, 1951, she was united in marriage with Robert Meerdink at First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, SD. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Sioux Falls where Glennys worked as a secretary for the Sioux Falls School System for many years. In the 1970s she was instrumental in the development of the First Lutheran Church Media Ministry. She served as a media assistant for 5 years. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church where she was very active in Bible studies, Circles and had served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of PEO, and a life member of the VFW
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Robert, of Sioux Falls; one daughter, Rebecca Lynn (David) Kruse of Jackson, MN; and two grandsons, Matthew Kruse of Rio, WI, and Michael Kruse of St. Louis, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will begin 11:00 am Friday at First Lutheran Church. Private interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the First Lutheran Church Media Ministry or to the Augustana College Scholarship Fund.
